A nurse at Parkwest Medical Center was honored this morning with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by the family of a patient who had received extraordinary care and compassion from his nurses during his final days. Today The DAISY Award was presented to Danielle Bishop, RN, from our Childbirth Center. Chief nursing officer Lynn Cagle presented Danielle’s DAISY award this morning.
She read Danielle’s nomination from a patient, “Over the past 2 weeks I have been to Parkwest four times for maternity care, with the 4th being delivery. Danielle has been with me for 3 of my 4 visits and has always been very caring and attentive. She stood out to my husband and I, both whom were about to be first time parents, for how warm and personable she is. As first timers we were very nervous about the whole process and she was very reassuring and thorough of explaining every step of the process. No matter how silly our questions may have seemed to others she treated each one with importance and never made us feel like we were wasting her time or being silly
We feel incredible grateful that we had her every step of the way, from me getting liquids and iron to taking lead on our daughter’s birth when it was time to start pushing. The next morning before her shift event started she stopped in to see how were survived our first night as parents. She took what could have been a terrifying experience and made it less stressful, and a little more peaceful…well as peaceful as birth can get.
All of the nurses at Parkwest have been in amazing in the Labor and Delivery unit and we are truly thankful that we chose this hospital for our daughter’s birth, but we really want to recognize our lead RN Danielle for how caring, attentive and personable she was. She made it very easy for us to put our trust in her.”
The DAISY Committee presented Danielle with a pin, a certificate, daisies, The Healer’s Touch sculpture, and cinnamon rolls for her entire department to share. Congratulations to Danielle! We appreciate her passion for nursing, and her commitment to always putting her patients first!
